Office Help

​

Here at Stone Designs and the Granite Art Garden we are excited to offer a great opportunity to work with a rapidly growing stone sculpture business and educational nonprofit. We are seeking office help with data entry and general office upkeep.

​

Located at a beautiful historic Maine quarry, we upcycle local stone from the 19th century into sculpture, craft, and landscape pieces. Our nonprofit helps preserve the history of quarrying as well as demonstrating current stone working techniques. We create educational opportunities where the community engages with this truly unique historical place.

​

Maintenance - Part Time

​

Are you retired and wanting something meaningful to contribute to in your free time? Are you young and looking to get into the workforce and seeking a group of in passionate people to align yourself with? Do you have craftsperson and/or maintenance skills? We have the job for you! At Stone Designs studio we create and sell stone sculpture, crafts, and landscape items by upcycling the abundance of stone that is from our quarry and the surrounding area.

Stone Designs, Inc. is looking for a motivated individual to contribute to the community while working with aspiring entrepreneurs and nonprofit enthusiasts. We provide meaningful jobs and educational opportunities and need your help with overall maintenance work and optimizing work efficiency. This person will primarily be responsible for grounds, facility, and equipment maintenance. Additionally, we need help strategizing the building, layout, and construction of a new stone processing facility.

 

We are seeking a part time employee now with a possibility of evolving to a full time position.

Wage will be determined based on experience and job requirements.

Year-Round and Seasonal (May-December) available.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge in a variety of mechanical systems

  • Able to make professional decisions in a fast-paced environment

  • Goal-oriented

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively

  • Self-motivated and self-directed

  • Comfortable in both a leadership and team-player role

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Aptitude for working on creative unique projects

  • Ability to follow written directions and diagrams 

  • Basic computer skills for referencing our process guidelines

  • Previous managerial experience highly preferred but not required

  • Experience managing supply inventory 

  • Friendly host manner with gallery goers 

  • Can effectively handle both administrative and mechanical responsibilities

  • Makes safety a priority at all times

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures exceeding 90 degrees fahrenheit at times, and below 20 degrees

  • Regular exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises

  • Driving a vehicle to conduct work: tractor, boom truck, etc. 

  • Frequent communication with the public and staff

  • Able to see at varying distances to perform detailed work assignments

  • Stand for extended periods of time

  • Dexterous of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment when necessary

  • Reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally. 

  • Occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch

  • Lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds 

  • Navigate hazards that are inherently present when working with tools and powered machinery

Craftsperson

 

We are looking for someone with craftsperson skills who shares our values, loves art and nature. Most of all we need an enthusiastic, hard working, and passionate team member. This person will have the responsibility of creating quality products. The ideal candidate should be willing to complete additional maintenance tasks necessary to keep the company running smoothly.

 

Wage will be determined based on experience and craftsperson skill level.

Year-Round and Seasonal (May-December) available.

Part Time, with options of advancement to full time, and Full Time positions.

 

Craftsperson Requirements and Qualifications

  • Aptitude for working on creative unique projects.

  • Ability to follow written directions and diagrams.

  • Basic computer skills for referencing our making product and process guidelines.

  • Proficient use of trade tools and machinery such as drills, saws, tractor in boom truck.

  • Being Organized and willing to follow proper methods of operations.

  • Shop math applicable to the building trades.

  • Perform heavy physical labor and use proper lifting techniques.

Studio Manager

 

Come join our team where you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside creative and passionate individuals at the Stone Designs Studio and the Granite Garden Gallery.  Located at a beautiful Maine quarry, we pride ourselves on upcycling local stone into sculpture, craft, and landscape pieces that reflect nature’s spectacular forms and patterns. We are excited for a Studio Manager to join our team in planning, organizing, and overseeing production. Candidates should be highly proficient in hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery.  Innovation and agility are required to develop and maintain production systems and equipment in a versatile working environment. We are seeking a motivated individual to work with our team in a pursuit of self improvement and company growth. Flexibility is required as specific responsibilities may change as the company evolves.

Hourly Rate: Commensurate with experience and ability.

 

Overview of Studio Manager Requirements and Qualifications

  • Develop and oversee the production processes and schedules

  • Identify areas of improvement proactively

  • Understand and implement all product processes

  • Ensure production is cost effective and time efficient

  • Maintain high standard of quality in products 

  • Work closely with maintenance, office, craftsperson(s), and clients

  • Uphold and implement Stone Designs policies and procedures 

  • Ensure health and safety (OSHA) guidelines are followed 

  • Identify training needs and ensure proper training is provided 

  • Willingness to complete additional maintenance tasks necessary to company upkeep

  • Proficient use of trade tools and machinery such as drills, saws, tractor and boom truck

  • Associates degree, engineering management/industrial technology (not required, but a huge plus!)

  • Knowledge of quality manufacturing processes and standards

  • LEAN Manufacturing experience or willingness to study
