Program Stewards at The Granite Art Garden

A wonderful opportunity to participate in educational programs at the Granite Art Garden. Located on a historic piece of quarry land that has much to offer in Down East Maine. While helping with this non-profit, enjoy the serene property that was once an old quarry now transformed with beautiful stone artwork from upcycled granite. Perks include the use of a well-nourished vegetable garden, a cozy cabin, root cellar, event area with pizza oven, sauna, local trails, and on-site swimming quarry.

 

Stewards may be responsible for the following, but are not limited to:

 

  • Manage ¼ acre fruit and vegetable garden

  • Grounds maintenance

  • Running educational classes/demos

  • Upkeep of equipment and facilities 

  • Bio-diesel operation/grease truck

  • Managing interns/volunteers working with wood, metal, multimedia, etc.

  • Create and manage Air BnB/Hip Camp

  • Implement forestry and farm animal programs (have structures for goats and chickens)

  • Organize community events

  • Fundraising, grants, and outreach necessary for infrastructure expansion

As a land steward, you’ll have the chance to contribute to meaningful programs while enjoying the beauty of the land. We’re offering a trial season with the option to transition into a long-term lease. Ideal candidates will have experience in large-scale agriculture or livestock management. Couples and families are encouraged to apply—we can’t wait to meet you.

  • Maple sugaring 

  • Bio-diesel operation/grease truck

  • Historic woodworking & blacksmithing shop

  • Access to tools and equipment for wood, metal and stone

  • Tractor 

 

Opportunities:

  • Greenhouse expansion

  • Mushroom farming

  • Create and manage Air BnB/Hip Camp

  • Goat farming

  • Chickens

  • Beekeeping

  • Organize/host community events

  • Educational & volunteer programs

 

Responsibilities:

  • Grounds maintenance 

  • Irrigation system upkeep

  • Coordinating educational classes/demos

  • Upkeep of tools, equipment and facilities 

  • Managing interns/volunteers working with gardens, trails, wood, metal, multimedia, etc.

  • Implement forestry and farm animal programs (maintain structures for goats and chickens)

  • Fundraising, grants, and outreach necessary for nonprofit funding and infrastructure expansion.

 

Desired skills:

  • Experience with organic gardening methods

  • Greenhouse management 

  • Knowledge of infrastructure systems and upkeep (e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry)

  • Mechanical knowledge (auto and power tool repairs)

  • Strong communication ability

  • Organizational skills 

  • Grant writing

  • Strong managing skills

  • Ability to stay calm and kind when faced with challenges
